Costa Rica Surgeons

Postby louisad » Wed Jun 06, 2007 7:25 am

I have had two procedures, eyes in Chicago and mini face lift with minor lipo in Costa Rica. Last procedure was 12 years ago in Costa Rica.
I am planning a face lift and minor lipo and am considering Costa Rica again but my doctor, Ernesto Marten, is or has retired and his son has taken over. No info yet on the son but am looking for anyone who has had a postive or negative experience in Costa Rica and any doctor recommendations. I may have it done it the Fort Lauderdale area. It depends on quality and cost combined with quality being the most important. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Dr. Marten has not retired, or anyway hadn't retired as of April of this year. I had a consultation with him then. I am looking into several doctors in Costa Rica and had 3 consultations while I was there. You might want to look at the website: psjourneys.com for information on surgeons in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica PS

I was reading through this site and found your comments and I was wondering if you found your Dr. I was also wondering what Drs you met with when you were there doing consultations. I have a TT scheduled on 9/18 in CR. I feel very comfortable with my Dr selection although I haven't actually met him yet. I tried accessing PSJourney website and altho9ugh I applied to be a member I have yet to hear from the webmaster there to get me access so I gave up. I used MTI (Medical Tourism International) to help me with me selections. I am planning to stay at Recovery Center Villa Le Mas near CIMA Hospital. I chose Dr. Araya so am wondering if he was one of the Drs you met. Am still researching everyhitn to ensure I made the right seelctions so if you have any feedback that would be most appreciated.

CR Doctors

No, I haven't decided totally on a doctor. The other doctors that I consulted with were Dr. Chacon and Dr. Pastor. I also had a consultation with Rivera via internet. I was also contacted by a medical concierge who works with Araya but I know nothing about him. The pictures of Le Mas look great but I just spoke w/ a woman who stayed there and said that the actual house smells musty and the food is not that good. that is the place I was planning on staying. Another woman I spoke to recommended the Paradise Inn that just opened but it is about twice the price. I also just spoke with a woman who had a TT w/ Dr. Fournier along with 6 of her girlfriends. They all loved him. I did see pictures of a awful facelift he did and that scared me away from him. So much to think about.

Interesting. Fournier just seemed to young for me and my concierge said he recently had a death. I have referrals from several of Dr, Araya's patients and have heard good things about Le Mas. I have been communicating with the people there and they ahve been so helpful and friendly. I guess I don;t care too much about the food. I was glad to get there as it is close to CIMA and one of the things I thought that was important was to make sure the Dr was affiliated with a good hospital. Some of the Drs there are not afficliated with CIMA. If you want I can send you the referrals I got from the Dr. I don;t know the other Drs that you mention.

I just went back to dr Fournier for scar revison and needed alittel more skin cut off from my tummy tuck last year. Also, I had lipo to the stomach and he lipo my legs and neck for free. My revisons cost me my plane ticket, place to stay, and 300 for hospital stay and 500 for OR and doctor fees. He doesn't do lipo to the stomach doing a tummy tuck because he says risk of skin death. He is older in his 60's. But, I like him. I only have had body work so not sure how his face work is. I didn't know he had a recent death.

I applied for psjourney over a month ago and never heard back from them either. What is the web address for Medical Tourism International? I looked it up on the web and couldn't find it?

http://www.arrivacostarica.com/ was recommended to me when I was thinking thinking about going to Costa Rica. Hope this helps!

Pastor has made a dreadful mess of one guys eyes recently and its going to cost a fortune to get it put right in the States.
Chacon has a good reputation but he errs to much on the side of caution for me,but also the liason between his staff could be a lot better, and his prices, although often double from others has a way of creeping up more.

PSJ,s is quite difficult to get on board.
not sure why but it just is.?

i think non of the recovery homes are especially wonderful and although the Paradise looks good, its only part finished.

Why does anyone even consider going outside the U.S. ? Doesn't the price of the airline tickets offset the savings? Are there other reasons I am not aware of? Just curious...

i believe cost is a big factor, even with flights and accomodation its often thousands of $$ cheaper, plus of course, some of the South American countries have some of the finest doctors, especially Brazil ,the home of plastic surgery.
the Ivo Pitanguy Clinic is renowned all over the world.!

there are good doctors everywhere, but not always are they artists.!

Is Dr. Araya a good surgeon? I'm thinking about going to him for some facial work.
