CO2 laser healing

CO2 laser healingHi, Dr. Naderi. Thanks so much for having this forum on this site.
I had CO2 laser resurfacing July 30, almost 4 months ago. I followed all instructions, but I seem to be healing pretty slowly. My PS even seems surprised that I'm healing so slowly, which is unusual because I generally heal quickly from surgeries in the past, and even from the MACS facelift I had at the same time as the laser. I'd wanted to have a lower bleph, but the morning I went in for surgery the PS asked if he could do a "little laser resurfacing" instead, because he was hesitant to do a lower bleph on my lower lid (thought I'd have retraction). My problem is the redness and scaly texture under the eyes. I can cover it with make-up, and from reading all of your comments about laser recovery, I just need to give it more time, but I'd like to have a little more reassurance. There seems to be scars (raised areas) right under the middle of each eyelid (where my bottom eyelashes would touch my skin if they were to touch my skin). Do you think this is just the collagen growing back at different rates? Because I can cover the redness with make-up, the texture is my main worry. If it won't be like this forever, I will be so happy. If it will, I will learn to live with it. What do you think? Thank you in advance for any help/reassurance you can give me. I know there are no guarantees. Mary Kate
Re: CO2 laser healingHi Mary Kate,
It sounds like your surgeon was not a "Maverick." Which is good when it comes to CO2 laser. The more cautious and conservative the better. But prolonged erythema can be seen for months or even longer. It often resolves but it may require some help from silicone topical lotions, topical steroids, Pulsed-Dye lasers, etc. As far as the "scar", you should see your surgeon or another to make sure you dont need steroid injections, creams or PDL laser. it does not hurt to get a 2nd opinion from someone who can see and examine you. good luck and keep me posted. P.S. MAKEMEHEAL.com has suggested removing my forum and joining it with the main site. I do agree that its beneficial for patients to be able to go to one source for answers. www.VirginiaFacialPlasticSurgery.com
