Bromelain

Postby kstrassman » Fri Oct 24, 2008 2:01 pm

Hi eidum06,

Bromelain and Ibuprofen are blood thinners and some doctors will not allow patients to take either of the two. Some doctors also have food restrictions, such as garlic because that is a natural blood thinner. The difference is that Bromelain is natural where as ibuprofen is not. Doctors have a tendency to have a bit more leniency when it comes to homeopathic remedies. Check with your doctor if are planning on taking Bromelain before sx to make sure its ok.

You can find Bromelain here:

I know that Bromelain is good for swelling post-op, but is there any benefit to taking it pre-op as well?

If you are taking Bromelain to reduce your swelling post-op, it is not necessary to start it before the surgery. Some people do take Bromelain on a regular basis but for other benefits than to reduce their swelling, for example Bromelain has been found effective for people suffering from sinusitis.

Bromelain is generally safe and free of side effects when taken in moderate amounts.

I hope this answers your question.
