My belly button has now completely closed up after 14 months

My belly button has now completely closed up after 14 months

Postby sumer » Sat Sep 19, 2009 9:19 pm

I am so upset!!! My belly button has been getting smaller and smaller over time and now its closed up. I have scar tissue (reddish lumps around it). It is ugly and I am obviously going to have to be fixed. ITS UGLY, and whos to say it wont close up the second time. I am really frustrated, has anybody had this happen to them or heard of it? Even though I still feel better about my stomach then before...its not everything I wanted it to be. My scar is high on the sides and now this....really disappointed. PLEASE HELP or tell me that you have heard of this.

Oh I'm so sorry, that has to be upsetting. I fear that, myself. I'm 10 days post-op and my button doesn't look anything like most of the other girls. Mine is very gathered, tight, bumpy and scabbed.

Will a revision mean more surgery? :(

I have never heard of such a thing. I am SO sorry honey! Do you have a picture? Your ps needs to fix that for you.

BB closing

Postby tuckandbr » Sun Sep 20, 2009 6:40 am

I read somewhere that you can put a chinese checker marble in the BB after TT surgery and it will reshape it to a nice little round BB. You of course have to sterilize the marble and put tape over it to keep it in. Chinese checker marbles are smaller than regular marbles so pick the size for you. Ask your PS since you're going to have to do it again. Mine has become quite a slit and when I see her again this week I'm going to ask about it.

Something to think about.

Although I am still early out, I am having the same concern. I had to have stitched placed in my belly button a second time because of bleeding behind it and that meant making it a bit small.I have starting using a marble yesterday, and will continue until I feel the skin will stay hole shaped. Who knows how long.

I am sorry this has happened to you. Hopefully your ps will be able to fix it and it be a fairly simple procedure. Stay positive.

I have been reading alot of posts on hear and many of the ladies run into this kind of problem. Some say a marble works great others have used earplugs, you roll it thin with your fingers, insert into belly button and it will expand in there, keep it in place with tape or band-aid, I don't know for how long but it seemed different for everyone, but worth a try. What else have you got to lose, except your bb of course :(

I'm only a few days out, but right in the recovery room the nurse told me to clean my BB every day, then put neosporin on the stitches and insert a rolled up gauze in it to keep it from healing closed, then top it off with another gauze to keep the rolle-up one in place.

see Patricia Heaton pictures

Postby suki2 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 6:34 am

Patricia Heaton famously has no belly button following a tummy tuck; google it for pictures of her wearing a bikkini.

She still says she's thrilled with her results; like everyone here, she was very unhappy with her body shape, and considers it a minor disadvantage of the procedure.

So you're certainly not alone.

OMG, I am experiencing the same thing. I said to my husband yesterday that I think my belly button is closing up!
A week after my surgery I talked to my PS and told him that I thought my BB was infected, he looked at it and said that it isn't infected that it might not be getting enough blood to it.
He said to come back to him in a week and a half...Which is this coming Thursday! So, I am anxious to hear what he says now!
It is still the same as it was when I saw him, only getting smaller in size.

Has anyone ever had to get surgery to re-open a BB?
And if so, what does this involve?

Guess I should chime in since I've had the worst luck with my BB.

I had sx January 08. The scar tissue was quite extensive around my BB, so in July of 08 I went back to ask for a steroid shot to reduce the scar. My PS, being a surgeon, said it was too thick and we should just cut it out and start again.

Well, it just happened again with worse scarring. But I didn't let that stop me from letting my inner "shewolf" out! I've vacationed on the beach many times since then, in a bikini, with a little round bandaid on my BB, lol. No one asks, and I don't have to worry about the scar getting dark and such.

Until (here comes the real problem) last month. My BB is REALLY closed up, I can't use a Q-tip or anything to get in there to clean it out. So when I shower, I try to press down on that area to get the moisture and gunk (yuck) out. A couple weekends ago, I was smelling something stank. I realized that it was coming from my BB and I couldn't get in there to clean it out! I did something I souldn't have.....I used a hair pin to dig down in there. Then I tried to push a q-tip over the opening, hoping to absorb some of the moisture, twisting back and forth and back and forth.

Guess what happened?? I broke the skin on the scar tissue (couldn't feel anything when I was doing it) and now I was bleeding. This coupled with the fact that I knew there was more funky stuff in there freaked me out! I finally called my PS in a panic, worried about infections and such. For an issue I should have adressed months ago but thought I could "live with".

Anyway, so they had me come in this past Monday (you get no love when you're almost 2 years post op! lol). I could hear my doc murmuring about another small BB as he walked in the door. He looked at it and said, yep it's closed. We could try again (meaning cut out the scar tissue a third time). I told him, can't we just try the steroid shot first? I don't care that I have a scar there, I just want to be able to clean my BB!

He's so nonchalant. Yeah, ok I'll be right back was his response. The injections didn't hurt at all, I'm still so numb there. But he slipped a couple squirts into my vertical incision and that stung. I told him so, and he said "Eh, well as long as I'm injecting you it's going to". :?

He also in passing told me that we could just get rid of my BB altogether. I shot that one down real quick. Let's not move too quickly. He used a low dose so I should see something in about 5-6 weeks. If it's not better, then we'll try another dose. If that doesn't work, Hmmm, IDK. But I think this will make it better. The scar will fade in time, but I just need to shrink it open.

A bad BB scar was my worst fear going into this surgery. Well, I got one and I'm not devastated by it. If I could clean that sucker out, I'd be fine.

Hi to all my vet friends, and welcome to the flats for all you new beauties out there!

PS, there's an open scar album around here with my name on it if you care to look. I'll post new pics if this works......

Hi everyone,
Just curious, how did your belly buttons turn out now? I am having mine repaired on 11/20 with arm lipo. I just want to see how it all turned out. Mine sounds a lot like Veronicas, I can only get into it with a hair pin. It is pretty closed up!

LOst 160 lbs and need a tummy tuck!

I am so sorry you are going through this. Hopefully it can be opened up again and kept open.

My BB is closed up too, but it happened from a hernia repair and then my TT seemed to seal the deal. I had a mini, so no new BB, but I came out with it closed. I don't even have to try to clean it because nothing can get inside.

I don't care at all...I'm 45 and not baring my BB any longer. But, I definitely would have cared when I was younger.

Did you talk to your PS as your BB was getting smaller and smaller? If so, what did he say?

Mines is closing too, I keep putting lotion in hopes that it would heal and with the moisture it would keep from closing. I do not want to venture and insert anything in it, since I have no feeling in that area, if something goes wrong I'm afraid I wouldn't know until it was too late, if you follow me.

I talked to my PS about it and his response to me was "well a BB is essentially just a scar, it has no function, it was just the scar that was left when they cut your umbilical cord" I thought "yeah, BUT not all scars look the same, some are cuter and more easily lived with than others", I didn't say that of couse, but I expressed concern and desire to have it fixed, he will fix it during revisions in 6 months.

Sorry about your BB closing, I heard PS doing umbilicoplasty all the time, so talk to someone about it, and keep us post it on it.

Good luck

I am about 2months post op and my had me start putting an ear plug in my BB about 2 weeks ago because it was shrinking. After I shower, I put some gauze in my BB to get the moisture out and then take an ear plug that I have cut down to about half an inch long and roll that up and press it into my BB and put two short strips of tape on the top to keep it in place. I don't think I really even need the tape anymore, as the earplug fits perfectly once it gets back to it's full shape. I have a followup on Nov 24, but I have a feeling I'll have to keep the ear plug in there for a while. I like the chinese marble idea though, that sounds good, as i'm concerned about the depth of my BB with the ear plug, which is why I cut it down.
