Can I take Benadryl (antihistamine) 7 days before surgery?

Can I take Benadryl (antihistamine) 7 days before surgery?

Postby 3kidbelly » Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:27 pm

Well - in some crazy attempt to achieve a good hair day, I decided to try a new conditioner. Now, due to a lovely allergic reaction, I have a speckled head, face and neck. I was given a prescription for a steroid cream and told to use Benadryl. Will it interfere with anything this close to surgery (7 days)? Has anyone here had to use Benadryl before surgery? I'll call my surgeon's office tomorrow, but I'd really like to take a dose tonight!

Thanks for your help!

Megan

Megan - well, I actually took the maximum recommended amount the night before my surgery to help me sleep per my doctors authorization. I had no anxiety pills presc. pre-op and I knew I would have a hard time felling asleep.

It was on my no-no sheet, I almost took some a few days before SX and decided to just double check. I would call to double check just so you feel safe going into it.

Here is a list of items recommended to not ingest 2 weeks prior to surgery...Benadryl is NOT on there, but I have read that you should notify your doctor before surgery that you have taken it...
