Is it dangerous to take Arnica before surgery?

Is it dangerous to take Arnica before surgery?

Postby fluff41 » Wed Jan 09, 2008 4:21 pm

I've heard that some PS's advise NOT to take arnica before surgery as it can thin your blood too much, I think there may have been conflicting advice on this as a friend of mind said she was told to take it 2 days pre-op.

I was about to start mine and have now read that it shouldn't be taken before sx? Does anyone have an opinion? Think I might skip taking it at the moment and take it to hospital with me to ask my PS on the morning of sx. Can anyone advise me? Thanks.

My PS told me to take it 2 days pre-op and 5 days post-op. It worked wonders my bruising was minimal.

on the contrary, arnica is the best thing to take prior to sx as well as post sx. my PS asked me to take 3 days prior to sx and continue after sx too.

You'll find that there are many doctors with different thoughts regarding things.. My PS preferred I didn't take it.
If you want to take it, the best thing you can do is call your PS's office and get his opinion.

My Sx told me not to take it cos it thins the blood and bleed out can occur. Garlic also a no no - in fact he told me to stop all vits and supplements till op was done, (3 wks prior to op).

So this is my problem, everyone's PS's seem to have completely opposing views! I was asked by the nurse during pre-op if I bruise easily which I said yes to and she spoke about Arnica but she didn't say I shouldn't take it before sx. Now I'm not so sure, I think I'll ring his office tomorrow and get an opinon from my own PS.

Arnica Montana

Postby michellepaek » Thu Jan 10, 2008 12:47 pm

Hi Everyone,

The 1M Arnica Montana can be taken 1-24 hours before surgery and the 30X Arnica Montana can be taken immediately after your procedure. If you are taking the SinEcch, you can take the 1M dose 1-24 hours before surgery as well as on the day of surgery. Then you start taking the 12C dose on days 2, 3, and 4. The Arnica Montana 30X can be taken after surgery-3 tablets, 3 times a day.

SinEcch (Arnica Montana)

VitaMedica Arnica Montana (30X)

I hope this information is helpful. Good luck to all!

I was told by a homeopathic, and confirmed by my PS, to start taking Arnica and Bromelien 14 DAYS before surgery and then 14 days AFTER surgery.

Anybody else recommended such a long duration?

I also bruise so easily...well, I used to bruise easily. I would "bump" something lightly and it looked like someone was beating me!!!! I started the Arnica 2 days prior to surgery 5 pellets/3x-day. Look at my pics from the beginning!!! Minimal bruising...I had lipo along with the FTT/MR. I was amazed. Now, 2 months out, I still am not bruising like I used to. I think it would be good for you! In my humble opinion :D

Yes Colomingle I was also told that taking it 14 days before & 14 days after surgery would help. I wasn't told by anyone who had any kind of medical background though but this woman has been helpful in many ways regarding natural healing so I tend to trust her. I wouldn't think Drs. would even know what Arnica is since it is natural. I cant believe I have to stop taking any herbal supplements 14 days before which means absolutely everything for me since I only use herbs for vitamins & such. Kind of sucks...LOL
