Hi ! With how well you are doing with pain I wouldn't worry a bit! Mine they punctured the drain first and then it was nothing. The staples did pinch when they came out! You seem like you are healing so well with only needing tylenol so early.

Good luck!

I hate to be the only negative one, but it HURT when I had my 2 drains removed! They were removed on day 8. The nurse clipped the stitch in each drain, then on the count of three, she and another nurse pulled them out at the same time. I thought I was going to come out of the chair! I am not a wuss, but it really hurt! It was over quickly, though. The ps didn't put anything on the holes. They kinda of closed and scabbed over by themselves. But on the bright side, it was really great to be rid of them. They were very uncomfortable. I hope this doesn't scare you, but I thought you should hear the other side of the story!!! I hope all goes well for you. :D

I had 4 drains because of LBL. I didn't feel it at all! really, the PS had to show me the drain because I didn't believe he took it out.
I was still very numb, heck I'm 4 months and still can't feel around my BB.
My PS just put gauze on the holes under the binder. They closed and I can't see where they were.

I found it uncomfortable, but it goes so fast! I didn't even know I had a drain in me (only overnight) until the nurse came in and told me she was taking it out, it was a little bit of a suprise!

My doc would only take one drain out at any visit. So, I had to go back three days later to get the second on out. Both though were very quick and totally painless. I had the pain pump as well with two tubes going inside. I took those out myself as soon as the pain pump was empty. I didn't want to drive the hour to get to my doc so I just gloved up, pulled them out and put a bandaid over the holes. Painless as well.
You have gottten through the first six days.......these drains are going to be nothing for you!

Mine hurt like the dickens but only lasted about 1 second. As someone else mentioned, nurse counted to three and pulled. No bandaid or anything, just out you go. It scabbed over then the scab fell off a week later. Good luck tomorrow!

I am going to be one of the negative ones too. Sorry! I went in not knowing what to expect and wish I would have known. I think not knowing what to expect was the worst part. The PS said "Ok, lets take it out", I asked if I was going to give me a local or anything and he handed me a gauze. lol. I held the gauze over the drain/hole and applied preassure with his hand over mine as he pulled it out. I could feel the entire thing come out and it was a bit painful and weird feeling. I lashed out the word "shit" and it was over. But that is the good part, as soon as its out the pain is over. My PS put a piece of tape over the tiny gauze that I was holding on it and out the door I went.

Sorry I didn't have a total upbeat response but that was my experience. I'm sure you will be fine. Its over quick.

I don't know how long my actual drain was but I only had 1 drain for a 27" incision. They told me to take a breath and breath out slowly and out it came. I felt one little flick on the inside which was weird but absolutely no pain for me at all. They taped a little piece of gauze on the hole and it didn't bleed much or continue to drain, scabbed over the next day. Anticipation was wayyyy worse than having it done.

Well....I wish that I could say that my experience was pain free. I also had a great deal of pain when the JP was pulled out! I felt like I was going to go through the roof!

The good thing was that it only lasted a few seconds....only had a guaze pad. It closed up very quick. No oozing afterwards.

I hope you'll get lucky and not experience any pain.

I would have to agree with Misty, as I too, said the word "shit!", when my first drain was taken out. I guess I just didn't realize how far inside that it actually was. I felt it move thru me (that didn't hurt) and while it was coming out the drain hole stung. 4 days later I went back and had the other one taken out. Same thing. However, it did only last a couple of seconds and the holes closed up on their own in a couple days.

one really stung... the nurse said one is usually worse than the other, and i thought oh please let that be the bad one. and it was.. the other one didn't hurt at all. i think the first one had curled around a little under my skin, so it hurt more getting it out. but only for a few seconds. and they just put gauze on the holes, and said i could use polysporin if i wanted (i did)... the holes scabbed over in a few days.

having a shower was heavenly :D

and the next week i was allowed to soak in my bathtub.. aaaahhh :D

and being able to sleep one my sides and not look like i was packing grenades under my dress  were good things about getting the drains out too :D

Tooraloora - your response cracks me up! I, too, am waiting for a nice shower. I hate the hand grenade look! I had surgery last Tuesday and hoping my two drains will be removed at my next appt on Wed which will be day 8. I keep fearing that my drains are going to fall out, as about 18 inches of tubing is exposed on each of them now. Just how long are the tubes??
