Lady Wendolyn Day 7/ PO How to heal an infected belly button

Lady Wendolyn Day 7/ PO How to heal an infected belly button

Postby ladywendolyn » Thu Jan 28, 2010 5:07 pm

Today is day seven for me since my TT surgery . . . and today was the day that I learned how to heal my belly button!

I was due to go to my GP doctor today for a flue shot, and he was also going to look at my belly, because my belly button was a bit red when I was into see my PS to have my drains removed last week. I did not think there would be a problem however, because the nurse had told me that even though it was red, it would just dry out on it's own . . . so don't touch it.

So today I get up to have a shower, and it's the first time I have had my compression garment off since they took the drains out, and so I look down at my belly button . . . and . . . Oh my God!!!
It is totally gross . . . green infected stuff and who knows what else, filling it, and now it is really red!
So I went to my GP doctor, glad that I do not have to wait on this, and he can tell me what to do.

So he looks at it, and he says, . . . "Oh, this is not a bad infection yet, but it could get to be if we ignor it, because your belly button is full of old tissue, fluid and blood from the surgery, and white blood cells . . . and it is all starting to rot!!!"

O.K. so now I am going to puke in the doctors office . .. this is soooo gross!
I take a deep breath, waiting for him to tell me how to clean it all out with a Q-tip . . . which of course will be disgusting, but not quite as disgusting as having the "black lagoon" growing in my belly button.

But then he tells me . . . "whatever, you do, . . . do not clean this out with a Q-tip, or pick at it . . . because most post op infections in the belly button are caused by fibres fromn Q-tips and cotton balls getting caught in there, and then the germs grab on and start growing.
He tells me that we are going to clean it out and heal it without touching it! . . . and how??? . . . The amazing belly button Jacuzzi!

Here is how the belly button jacuzzi works . . . fill a tiny wine glass (liqure size ) 1.5 inches across. (you know the one I mean, the one your mom used to put creme de menth in)

So I'll start again . . .
. . . Fill a tiny wine glass with warm salty water . . . peel back your compression garment . . . place a towl under belly button to catch drips . . . flip wine glass with salt water against belly button, so that it is upside down, . . . it will seal and nothing will leak out with just a bit of pressure . . . now your belly button is completely covered in warm salty water . . . .lay back for 10-15 minutes, occasionally swilrling wine glass . . . which will cause all the junk in the belly button to loosen . .. . after one final swirl, flip glass foward . . . the belly button is now cleaned and sanitised . . . without touching any icky stuff . . . and a lot of the the icky stuff is now in the wine glass . . . pat dry . . . air dry for five minutes if you have time . . . cover with gause pad . .. replace compression garment . . .

Do this twice per day . . . until belly button looks amazing . . . and . . .healthy . . . and not red . . . . and no gross stuff . . . .

Easy . . . did not hurt . . . looks better all ready . . . !!!!

So I thought I would share this bit of info, in case anyone else is having a problem that is similar . .. and from what the doctor said, . . . this would benifit the belly buttons recovery, even if there was no icky stuff in it . . . .
That being said . . . if your doctor tells you something different . . . of course follow his advice and not mine.

Hey . . . maybe I can market this on the internet . . .a new product . . . "The Belly Button Jacuzzi" . . . good for tummy tucks, belly dancers, and people who are preoccupied with navel lint" . . . haha !!!

(That was my smile for your day . . . but don't laugh too hard, or you could pop a stitch!)

You don't know how happy I was to read this! I have gooky crap in mine, doesn't sound like what you were dealing with, but I have a bit of a belly button cleanliness fetish. Since I've been able to take baths I keep trying to splash a bit of nasty out and was afraid to touch it. I swear I was taking a q-tip to it before the doctor's today (you know know how we have these stupid things about wanting to be coiffed sick at the doctors and a clean house for the cleaning company).

I just happen to have a shot glass sitting on my bathroom vanity - a gag gift from a friend - that I NEVER drink out of that will work perfectly. It says "Mean People Suck. Nice People Swallow." I'm glad to have found another good use for my bff's humor:)

THANK YOU! i'm on my way downstairs for salt right now!
Hugs & Healing,
Susan
