8 months post op swelling

8 months post op swelling

Postby akfirewoman » Thu Dec 27, 2012 8:51 pm

How long can I expect this swelling to last? I am 8 months post op and for the last 2 months I have been in full blown swell hell. I have even tried a prescription diuretic to see if that would help, well it hasn't. And I am back in my binder hoping the compression will help. I would love to hear from some vets out there that can understand where I am at. A little history on my tt-
-recovery was very easy for me
-work out 4 days a week with 90 min hard cardio and 30-45 min weight training
-eating healthy and low sodium
-at one point could wear a size 2 Levis, now my size 4's are tight
-before my tt I lost 135 lbs (all on my own) and maintained my weight for 2 yrs almost 3 yrs now
-last 2 months scale has went up 10lbs and all my measurements are up by 1 inch (boobs up 4 inches I am a 32 J, dont need anymore boobs)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Just put my sausage suit back on to see if it helps at all. I go back for my 6 month checkup on Jan 2nd, almost worried to see what PS says. I'm afraid he's going to say it's all in my head. *sigh*

Ugh, I'm going through the same thing. I'm almost 9 months out and my swelling is pretty intense. I'm working out 4-6 days a week. I got down to 131 after my TT and now I'm stuck at 138 -141ish. I'm 5'3 and have gained a lot of muscle from working out. I can't imagine muscle plus swelling has caused me to gain 10 lbs. I started counting calories again.

I've started wearing my binder at night and sometimes during the day. I went out for dinner with a girlfriend the other night and had 1 drink and sushi and I could feel my upper stomach puffing up by the end of the hour. I can't wait for this to be over. I thought for sure I would be past swell hell by now.

Hang in there ladies!!!

Nice to hear from you again byebye, I too thought this swelling would be past me too. I try not to let it get to me, I am treating it as fat and not swelling. That way if it is fat I am being proactive, and if its swelling, just think how good I'll look when it goes away!! Best of luck to you!! Stay in touch. Will post new pics soon, in 2 days I'll be 9 months post op.

I'm in the same boat. I was getting concerned until I read everyone else's posts about this. I breezed through the healing process and thought I had it made, but for the past month or two I've been increasingly getting larger despite the very limited caloric intake and walking/jogging 2.5 miles per day! I've actually gained weight...wth?? I'm pretty miserable and am about to give it all up. My upper belly looks freaking weird by the end of the day and my my upper thighs have never looked this huge. I'm just hoping it will go away soon... :(

ok so this is my opinion, thus far...and no i havent done a tt yet (next month) but have spent hundreds of hours on the internet for the past two years researching everything about tt, i have 6 friends that have all had tt's, and i am an RN.

From what i gather from all the tt swell hell complainers is that women who work out tend to experience swell hell a lot worse than those who don't. Now im not saying to not work out, but ideally strenuous workouts should be held off until a year after a tt. I dont know why doctors in the United States dont tell patients this, but other countries like DR, venezuela, brazil, and colombia do!

Why?? Because after a tt the entire lymphatic system in the abd area is destroyed. It takes a MINIMUM of a year for the lymphs to repair themselves. Additionally, a full tummy tuck involves internal sutures that are still healing 6 (+) months after a tt. when you exercise hard core 4-6 times a week for hour(s) a day you are creating stress within those healing tissues within the abodomen. To say you dont work out your abdomen makes no sense because u have to use your core muscles (aka internal abdominal muscles) to do everything including walking and runing. This creates inflammation and because your lympth system is destroyed; the inflamation (which consists of engorged tissue with lympth fluid) has no where to go.
Bottom line: girls who tell me they work out more than twice a week < a yr after a tt are the ones complaining of swell hell in my experience. this is my own experience from what ive read and talked to my friends about. So i plan to take it real easy and get lymph massages from someone very educated on tt for up to a yr post op.

I will completely agree with you on the fact that women who workout hard, do experience more swell hell, I too have noticed that. I also want to wish you well on your upcoming TT!!! So excited for you!! Like you I spent over 18 months researching this procedure and reading all I could here on MMH. I think if you dont have any problems keeping your weight at a healthy level without working out than I would back off. In my case, it took me 3 yrs to loose 135lbs (all on my own, no diets, pills, or surgeries, just sweat and hard work!!) and working out is essential in me keeping my weight down, so taking a yr off is not realistic for me. I am happy to report my swell hell broke and my clothes are fitting normal again. Even though the swelling caused me some grief, I was happy it was just fluid and not body fat, which is so hard for me too loose!!! Plus I dont like the way I feel when I miss workouts, I get lethargic, cranky, bad attitude and my sleep suffers. This is a very traumatic thing we do to our bodies and takes a long time to fully recover, and I would go through it all over again!! I would love to hear all about how your healing and recovery goes when you too make it to the flatlands!!! Hope you have a recovery as easy as mine has been!!

2 years (Re: 8 months post op swelling)

Hello All,

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if anyone out there is having a similar issue.

I am two years post-op, I weighed 148lbs before TT and I now weigh 168lbs. Although the weight has gone everywhere, I have noticed my breasts and upper thighs seem to be bigger than they have ever been (tummy is still flat). I have not started eating more since surgery and I have never been good at keeping an exercise routine. Because of these reasons I didn't expect to lose weight but I can't understand why I have gained weight either. I have started strict calorie counting (Weight Watchers style). I hope to shed some of these lbs. I can't help but wonder if my Lymph System has not repaired itself completely.

The scale keeps slowly creeping up and I keep thinking I will level off but that has not been the case.

Thanks for reading.

I will be 8 months post TT in about a week. No muscle repair or lipo, however the swelling I've been experiencing for the past month and a half is torture. I bodybuild and rarely ever veer from my eating regimen that I've followed now for 7 years. By mid-day my tummy is so puffy and swollen it really messes with me. I feel heavy and so bloated. My PS says the working out causes trauma to the surgical area that has had trauma from surgery. So it's trauma on top of trauma - but told me not to stop exercising. I started taking dandelion root to see if this provides any relief, it's still too early. As for lymphatic massage, that's not cheap and I can't even find anyone local who does it. I'm in my binder at night and when I'm home, but this is really becoming a drag.... I hope relief is not too far away.
