Pus/drainage at incision, anyone?

Pus/drainage at incision, anyone?

Postby mzfinch » Tue Dec 27, 2005 10:57 pm

Hi all. I am having some drainage/pus coming from my incision. I am 6 1/2 weeks PO FTT/MR/Lipo. It is in the center of my incision. It is kinda firm & tender there, little warmth also. I can squeeze & get some pus. My DH+ (good day, lol!) said maybe stitch has not dissolved & coming out.

Has anyone have/had this? How long does it take for the suture to finally surface? I am annoyed with it... hurry up & pop out or go away!

At 6 1/2 weeks postop, the outer skin of your incision should not still be open. If you are able to squeeze fluid from an opening along your incision line at this stage, you should see your PS. You may have developed an infection.

Hi Patresa! I think I am going to call. I have had the sutures surface from my breast scar revion 4+ years ago, but I do not recall them coming from the incision. You know, that spot (that has the pus/fluid) has always irritated me from day one ofthe surgery. Hmm wonder if I had a reaction? We thought maybe ingrown hair (as my incision is right on top of my "landing strip".

Well, you know there will be a hotline to my PS tomorrow!

hugs-

You should definitely call your PS. It's probably not the result of an ingrown hair if you felt irritation from the beginning in that particular spot. Also, you paid a lot of money for the procedure. Don't hesitate to call the PS whenever you have a question or feel like something is not normal. In a lot of cases, you can talk to one of the office nurses and they can answer your question or relieve your anxiety. And if there is a problem that requires the attention of the PS, you certainly want to bring that to his attention as early as possible.

I called my PS office a lot during the first two months. They were always friendly and seemed to be used to patients calling frequently in the beginning. And even though its wonderful to have people on the board to bounce things off of, only your PS can really give knowledgable information in your specific case.

mz.. I would call your ps. At 4 1/2 wks under my incision and the side I was working my scar, the stitch popped like they all did scar was flattening out, then next day I noticed that one area was hot and somewhat sore called my ps went in he opened the area dug around and pulled out a stitch and pus came, said it was just a stitch that wasn't disolving not to worry, put me on high doseage of antib. saw me again in 2 days, more drained, but incision healed no more problem. So call and make sure all is well ok. good luck Cathie :) keep us posted
