Steri Strips on Incision have caused Blisters?

Steri Strips on Incision have caused Blisters?

Postby MsPeaches » Sat Jan 28, 2006 2:31 pm

Hi everyone,

I know I have seen this before on the board but not recently. I had an area of my incision to start itching and feeling irritated last night (11 days po). I dared not scratch but I did take benadryl and went to bed. This a.m. after my shower I looked at the area and the steri strips were coming off and I took it the rest of the way. The incision is closed but there is a sizable blister there! Of course it was even more sore because the last of the steri strip pulled a little skin off. I called my ps who said I coauld leave it alone or take a sterile pin and lance it to make it drain. I couldn't do it, just hurt too much. Has anyone else had this and what did you do. My ps is wonderful and he would even go to his office to see me if need be but I know my girls here can help me.!:) I took a pain pill after my meltdown and feel so much better now. I think it's because the steri strip is off of that ares. Paige

I had a tape blister. Freaked me out! I thought it was the begining of Necrosis. I went into my PS office that day. He said no, its just a tape blister he took the tape off told me to keep it lightly covered and dry. He said do not put anything on it. I left it alone it scabed over and fall off and all is fine now.
I hope you're feeling better.

First of all take a deep breath..... It's OK...... good news.....

My Ps nurse ask if I was allergic to the steri strips ad I said no. Well low and behold, I got 2 BIG ugly blisters. Freaked me out also. One popped on its own, and I messed with the other til it WOOSHeD out.

Don't be too upset cuz it takes a while for these to heal and the scabs were really thick and ugly (it was so hard for me not to pick at them) anyway, then they left scars - I thought DANG!!!!!

BUT, the scars go away really fast (mine are gone now). It's just a real inconviencence, but cause no damage.

Good Luck, and what a sweet PS you have to meet you in the office today.

Thank you so much for getting back to me. I needed the support! It was funny that this particular section of the scar was itching SO bad last night and wa la this am after the surgery. Can you please explain how it felt and looked?
I have a non stick guauze pad over the area right now but I would love to be able to make it drain, I think I would feel 1000% better but I don't want to mess with it right now. It did freak me out and it is obvious it is a blister. I know I can always go in to the ps on Mon but I'm am hoping to relax and remember that this is OK! Paige

I'm in Evans, its a burb of Augusta.

I don't remember my incision ever itching. I remember my tummy itching and I took some benedryl for that.

I actually poped my blister with my fingernail. It was about the size of a seedless green grape.

Just try not to stress over it ok. It really will be OK. It might even pop on its own. Try taking some benedryl for the itching. OK

Pat

Karen, Hi sweetie, I wish I could relax with this but it's hard to when you have these little complications along the way. They just don't seem normal. I have talked to the ps again and still don't feel better about it. :( Paige

Paige,
I too got blisters from the tape. One night, (late) I had to look at the incision (5 days po) it had been sore all day. Well, I almost died...there was something gross potruding from under the tape! It was dark in color. It was too late to call the ps so I took a percocet just to calm myself down enough to go to sleep! I too, thought I had necrosis. I went to the ps office thw next day. By that night it had popped on its own, but I had another huge one. That night I spent a half hour in the shower peeling all the tapes off. Turns out, there were little blisters all along the incision! No more blisters after the tape came off! Good luck and don't worry!

My ps told me he won't use steri strips because have a tendency to cause blisters. He sent me home with gauze under my binder. After a few days, I bought a package of Depends, cut out the absorbant part (huge) and wore that across my inciscion and belly button..very, very comfortable. I thought he was old-fashioned at first, but it seems he's right!

JennSamm,

Thank you so much, you are decscribing exactly what I am going through. I have about 3 of these and they are right along, above and below the incision line and are draining a little. I could tell this morning through the bandage and t-shirt. Would you mine telling me what you did for this and how long did it last before they went down or erupted. Did you still wear your binder? My ps said that I should only wear it at night when there is less friction. I feel so unstable without it. Did the area you had the blisters look red and almost like whelps and sore to the touch? I so appreciate your being here for me. I feel like I caused this by not taking these steri strip off sooner. However, my ps told me to let them come off on their own.;) Paige
