5 wks post-op, wedge, sides of clit hood, HELP

5 wks post-op, wedge, sides of clit hood, HELP

Postby angel5 » Tue Jul 14, 2009 3:31 pm

I am 5 weeks post-op, I had wedge done, and some skin on side of clitoral hood removed that was part of labia that extended all way up. Did anyone have that done too?

It seems that after excess skin was removed on sides of clitoris, that the hood is now pinned down each side and more difficult to access clitoris, pushing pressure against clitoris back inside my body? Anyone experience this? did it resolve over time?

After 5 weeks, did you notice your labia continue to get shorter, and shrink more?
or did it eventually relax and loosen up a bit? My concern is, it feels like my dr. took TOO much off, and I have been crying and depressed feeling like I made irreversible mistake! and I don't know if it continues shrinking it shall disappear. I still want some labia to be there to have something to "spread", like a butterfly or petals of a flower, but when I spread my legs the lips open by themselves and reveals my vaginal opening, making me look loose, is it because they're too short? does this resolve over time?
The labias feel tight and rubbery now 5 wks post-op, a couole stitches till there, will they relax and get more larger and flexible, or is this the size it will be?

The bruising seems to be gone, clitoral hood is darker though than I remember, so maybe some discoloration.

At what point should I expect to see "final" result. I am so depressed and feel like I messed things up down there.

Hi Angel,

Hugs to you! Sorry it's still difficult. From the sounds of it and because you still have some stitches in, you still have some swelling and should give it a little more time before your final results to show.

Maybe some of the other girls here who have had a hoodectomy can help to give you a bit more help as far as a timeline.

I am confused a bit though when you say that the hood is now pinned down to each side of your clitoris, making it harder to access... it sounds like the skin is above it. But in the next paragraph, it says that you feel he's taken too much off. Sorry, I might not be reading it correctly.

Maybe you could post a picture to help show what you mean. Maybe we could weigh in better with it.

Take care.

Hugs from me too!! Sorry I didn't see your post earlier!

I have not had any work done on the hood, so I do not speak from experience but I highly suspect as things soften up, the pressure on the clitoris will be reduced. I very much remember, although my labiaplasty was years ago, that they were very firm and tight for some time. They will definitely soften up and relax. I wish mine hadn't relaxed quite that much :-(

I also suspect that you are over analysing things done there...I bet you never looked so much before  Give it time. I reckon you will love the result. As time goes on I like the "less labia" look more and more, although originally I was more conservative.

If you would like to post pics we will all tell you how good you look!!!!

hugs

Hi Angel,

So sorry you're feeling bad!

I didn't have any work done around my clitoris but I know what you mean when you say the sides are pinned down. I am at 8 weeks and it is that way for me too. Others have written that they are able to move the hood over time but never as much as before, though there is not a lot on this on the boards. On the positive side, it still works the same!

As far as the hardness, mine started to resolve after about 6 weeks but is still a bit present -- more on one side than the other. Aside from the hardness/rubbery feeling, my labia did not shrink further, rather just softened up. Things started to move along at 6 when my stitches came out though I'm still sensitive and a bit bumpy in places.

Let us know how you're doing!

Hugs,

JS

hey baby girl... i'm the same, although only 3 weeks post op i was just inspecting tonight and found the exact same thing... the hood is pinned down so to speak. I also had a hoodectomy... and apparently my labia were a bit difficult as they had a weird splitting thing going on up near my hood... like they extended up all the way next to my hood. He said this was quite difficult to fix so he took a bit of extra time and care there. I was particularly annoyed with that area pre-op b/c it always seemed like there were extra folds to clean, but now i'm worried that my "pinned down" area is going to be even harder to keep clean. i'm just giving it time before i start to worry... i know everyone here has said that it can take months before you see your final results. So be patient, and ask the PS if you're in doubt... i'm sure they're used to lots of questions after something like this :)

Any other girls that have had a hood reduction out there that can help us out? I think we'd both really appreciate some encouragement. :)

A little update -- I checked again to see if the hood was still as pinned down as before and can now report that, at least at week 8, I can pull the hood all the way back easily. This was not possible at weeks 5 or 6 (can say whether I checked last week). Hope this helps . . .

I had labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction and am now posp op day 7. I completely understand the "pinned down" look. My clitoral hood stuck out pretty far before (which I didn't like) so instead of removing a whole lot of skin that might expose the clitoris, it seems as if my doctor removed a little from the sides and pulled it down so it doesn't stick out so far and look (top heavy) after the labiaplasty. I like the way it now looks from the front view while standing, but I am a little worried that sex might not be as enjoyable. Anyone have a problem having orgasm during sex after this? I definitely didn't like the way it stuck out so much before, but orgasms were never a problem. I'm worried that I shouldn't have messed with the hood :-(

Re: 5 wks post-op, wedge, sides of clit hood, HELP

Postby samsara1214 » Sun Nov 01, 2009 5:00 pm

I had a hoodectomy years ago for medical reasons (chronic adhesions, which even world-renowned specialists couldn't explain) and I had the same terror that I looked weird, and it healed with a kind of "double wrapped scarf" look around the exposed clitoral head, which I thought looked so stupid! However, that was just the healing phase, and the double scarf thing disapearred within a month or so as swelling went down. I was worried that men would notice and ask what I'd had done, but they either have no idea what a woman looks like down there, or they like it, because I've had lots of compliments. :) I would give it at least three or four months to "settle" before you pass any judgments on the results, truly. Mine kept changing for six months after the surgery--not in a bad way, but I noticed my anatomy was...well...settling into it's new form, and I'm very happy with the results. Good luck and I hope you're gentle with yourself (emotionally) as you heal. Not to be corny, but you've been through a big, important change. Baby yourself a little, and be patient.

Samsara thanks for the update on your progress after years... and you're right I don't think men have a clue what it's "supposed" to look like and women are vastly different.

MPH... how has the sex worked out if you can report yet?

I too notice a bit of a pinned down look (I'm just two weeks post up)... one side of the hood appears larger (or the other side more pinned). But there was a lot more skin to remove on the larger-appearing side, and I too hope it settles in time.

This is one thing I am scared of as I just posted in another thread - the surgeon removing too much! I also want a very small butterfly look, I just think it looks more natural. If he cut all my skin off I would DIE which is why I was considering wedge not trim because in theory it should be a LOT harder to remove it all with wedge! But I also read that if the skin is thick, wedge will shorten them but not thin them out - only trim can. Now I'm confused :( I finally got the courage to email my surgeon of choice and he hasn't replied :(

Friday...

I had what I'd consider quite thick labia preop.. I chose wedge because the thought of having a line of stitches all along the outside edge gave me the willies. I will say at about 7 weeks post-op I am having some scar tissue form along the sides which is slightly painful... (I worried about that because my skin scars easily)... but it may have been worse with the trim since the scar would be mostly along the edge and therefore more likely to be irritated by underwear. It all depends on what "look" you're going for. Of the photo albums on this board, both the wedge or trim turn out looking good.

Hiya... can't help but add my 2 cents.... I had the labiaplasty done 3 months ago and the doc took off TOO MUCH on one side ! So now I have sorta lipage on one side and barely anything (no butterfly look AT ALL!) on the other. Sucks big time. I'm also very very upset by it. Not only does it look uneven, but the one side just looks bare.
The doc claims, of course, that it looks as best as it could!
BS.
There's my $$ and my skin down the drain. Never mind... I can't even say it looks better than before, even though my (sweet) BF says it does look fine.
Ohwell.
Buyer beware.

There is so much to consider here. First, the way in which the clitoris glans is joined to the inner labia or, 'the wings', second, the technique used to make the hood less prominent and third the hood length and thickness of its skin. It isn't easy to get the balance right with surgery. This is why I am waiting for a while and learning as much as I can before a hoodectomy which I would like done with a labiaplasty. I am very concerned about the hoodectomy for the reasons which are given by other women in this post.

Above all it's a question of what one wants most. Aesthetics seem to matter a lot but then this can result in the hood being pinned down and restricting in way in which the hood moves over the glans. My reasons for wanting a hoodectomy are primarily to gain easier access to the glans and to get the glans more freedom of movement. So for me free movement is the real goal and aesthetics are secondary. My hood seems to have a double layer or roll of skin (double wrapped scarf), and it extends a long way beyond the glans. It is difficult to roll back and expose the glans and one almost has to do it separately with each of 2 rolls or layers of skin ie a hood within a hood. So what I am looking for is not so much the way it will look, but an improvement in function and having fewer folds to clean as another post says.

I know a lot of women here worry about too much being taken off and don't want the clitoris exposed. I don't think I would mind the hoodectomy leaving the glans exposed, in fact I would prefer it. This is also because I can take direct stimulation on the clit. Of course I would like the finish to be symmetrical. I do worry about how the wing attachments where the inner labia join the underside of the glans will be affected by the labiaplasty.
