Is it normal for there to be no immediate arm size change right after surgery? I mean none at all!

I am wrapped in ace bandages from armpit to elbow only. I had a complication right after surgery - tons of bleeding in my right arm (left arm was fine!) and so I went back in my surgeon literally had to open me up again under local anasthetic to deal with a hematoma and sew me back up. It was kind of painful, but I was cool about it.

What is really bumming me out is that both of my arms look NO DIFFERENT than before the surgery right now. they are just as huge as when I went in.

I know there is swelling, but my arms were HUGE to begin with - very disproportionate with the rest of my body. My body clothing size is a size 12, but arms are a 16/18 and they were batwing to the extreme, especially at the elbow. Even my forearms have always been fat. My arms have always been just ridiculous and have made me look fatter than I am. I waited 14 years for this surgery and I am going to cry every day if I can't have the arm size of a size 12 woman.

Thanks in advance

It is hard to say without seeing before and after photos, but I wouldn't worry until you have gotten past the swelling stage. You probably are someone who swells a lot and it set in right away. Or, it could be your Dr. didn't lipo enough fat. Hopefully that is not the case. Good luck going forward. I am one month post op from arm lipo and I did see a drastic change right after he finished, before the swelling set in. So I feel for you and would probably worry too. But always remember no 2 people react the same after the same surgery procedure. Give your self a chance to heal. Then if there is no change, take it up with your Dr.

If you have any questions about plastic surgery or a particular procedure, you can ask over at the plastic surgery forum Realself, and you'll be sure to get a response from a qualified surgeon. You can also check out reviews and other people's experiences

I've removed the self PROMOTIONAL link to your OWN profile on Real Self. The only reason I'm not deleting your whole post is that I'm electing to keep it as an example of how far some doctors go to promote themselves.

Indeed, RS is the best venue for doctors to promote themselves. But you've gone a little too far in the way you entered the MMH venue:

1: This section of MMH is for patient feed back from other patients.

2: The other patient who responded gave a very good answer.

3: It's bad form to go on a board to promo a competing board. Besides, it's not as if you can assume that patients don't already know about RS.

4: It gets even more brazen when #3 is also coupled with a link to your OWN promotion on RS.

5: You didn't even use your entry here to address the patient's question.

All that said, I'm requesting to contain any further self promotion to RS.
